Tuesday basketball results include Norfork girls winning opener in Bobby D. Hulse Memorial Classic

Several high school basketball teams began their season Tuesday, and Norfork began by hosting the Bobby D. Hulse Memorial Classic.
The host Lady Panthers were able to invoke the mercy rule as they routed Kingston 72-42. Liza Shaddy led Norfork with 20 points and 10 rebounds, Keely Blanchard scored 19 points, and Maggie Tyrone added 15.
Calico Rock had a rough night in the other girls’ game. The Lady Pirates suffered a 54-38 loss at the hands of Bay.
On the boys’ side, Flippin was able to edge out Bay 55-54. The Bobcats were led by Rylin Robbins with 20 points, and Alex Glenn chipped in 17.
Calico Rock’s boys ended up falling to Mammoth Spring 65-57. Garet O’Dell was the Bears’ top scorer with 23 points, Caleb Michaels had 13, and Blake Rogers finished with 12.

A few area teams began their season in the Pangburn Tip-Off Classic.
The Mammoth Spring girls began their defense of last year’s Class 1A state title with a 58-41 loss to Mount Vernon-Enola. Brynn Washam led the Lady Bears with 16 points, and Adrianna Corbett ended up with 14.
Bergman dominated another high school girls’ game at Pangburn. The Lady Panthers pounded Sloan-Hendrix 75-30.
In boys’ action, Timbo fell to Valley Springs 73-29, and Bergman destroyed Mount Vernon-Enola 85-48.

Elsewhere, the Viola High School teams were able to sweep Lead Hill. The Longhorns took the boys’ game over the Tigers 54-47. Viola also won the girls’ contest 78-15.

Ozark Mountain’s high school teams picked up a sweep over Alpena at Western Grove. The boys’ game ended with the Bears beating the Leopards 59-45. Ozark Mountain also won the girls’ game 66-56 over Alpena.

Jasper put the mercy rule in effect in both of its high school games with Eureka Springs. The Pirates dominated the Highlanders 74-38 in the boys’ game. Jasper also breezed past Eureka Springs 70-24 in the girls’ contest.
