
The Mountain Home High School volleyball team came up just short in its last road trip of the regular season. The varsity match needed all five sets on Tuesday, but Greenbrier got past the Lady Bombers with scores of 16-25, 25-20, 25-20, 20-25 and 15-13.
Three area teams competed on the second day of the 2A-North District Tournament at Quitman.
Yellville-Summit was able to pull off a five-set upset over the host Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Panthers secured a state tournament bid with scores of 15-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21 and 15-10.
Izard County watched its season come to an end in the later match. Marshall will join Yellville-Summit in the state tournament after beating the Lady Cougars in four sets with scores of 25-18, 18-25, 26-24 and 25-15.
Two area teams squared off in the quarterfinals of the 3A-Northwest District Tournament at Dover. Melbourne’s season ended, and Valley Springs clinched a state berth. The Lady Tigers beat the Lady Bearkatz 25-17, 25-12, 17-25 and 25-12.
In Missouri, Gainesville was one and done in the Class 2, District 9 Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs fell in straight sets as Mansfield posted scores of 25-16, 25-17 and 25-23.
West Plains was eliminated on the opening night of the Class 4, District 5 Tournament in Jefferson City. Union topped the Lady Zizzers in four sets with scores of 25-14, 24-26, 25-13 and 25-15.
Branson was victorious in four sets as they began hosting the Class 4, District 6 Tournament. The Lady Pirates beat Springfield Hillcrest 25-22, 15-25, 28-26 and 25-15.
Three area teams began action in the Class 3, District 11 Tournament at Mountain Grove.
Hollister was bounced from the opening round in four sets. Reeds Spring defeated the Lady Tigers 28-26, 22-25, 25-17 and 25-13.
Forsyth was able to advance to Thursday’s semifinals. The Lady Panthers topped Ava in straight sets with scores of 25-17, 25-11 and 25-15. Forsyth’s next opponent will be Willow Springs.
