Man accused of stealing vehicle, leading authorities in 2-state chase apprehended Thursday

A man accused of stealing a vehicle at a West Plains gas station and leading authorities on a chase on both sides of the state line has been apprehended. Thirty-two-year-old Adam Bartlett Jr. is being held without bond in the Howell County Adult Detention Center.

According to the Howell County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received information around 9 Thursday night as to the whereabouts of a wanted subject identified as Bartlett. The Howell County SWAT Team responded, and Bartlett allegedly began to flee the scene in a stolen vehicle. A tactical vehicle intervention was executed by the SWAT Team, and the vehicle was disabled.

West Plains officers had reportedly found a stolen vehicle Oct. 4 at the Snappy Mart 11 located at on U.S. Highway 63 North. Two days later, the Mountain Home Police Department started to pursue a stolen vehicle from Missouri with assistance from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office and Arkansas State Police.

Sheriff’s deputies picked up the chase on U.S. Highway 62 west going towards Gassville. The driver went through Gassville, turned north on Arkansas Highway 126 toward Midway, then went north on Arkansas Highway 5 into Ozark County. Between Gassville and Midway, the Arkansas State Police engaged the suspect and took over as lead. Top speeds were reported in the 90 mph range.

Bartlett is being held on felony warrants for parole violation, possession of a controlled substance and a recovered stolen vehicle.
