The Baxter County Library is hosting a Little House on the Prairie Short Story Contest, providing an opportunity for individuals of all ages to showcase their creative writing skills and celebrate the characters of the books and TV series.
The contest is open to both adults and students in grade 3 or above and to those who live in Baxter County and surrounding areas. Entrants are tasked with writing a short story based on a character from the Little House on the Prairie books or television series. The short stories should encompass a beginning, middle, and end.
Some inspiration prompts include:
– Using a quote from a Little House on the Prairie book, create your own story from the quote, then describe what happens next.
– Explore how one of the characters from the series has impacted your life.
– Transport a character or scene from Little House on the Prairie into a modern setting and craft a story around it.
The top three winners in each age category will be awarded a private meet and greet, providing an exclusive opportunity to interact with cast members from the Little House on the Prairie TV series at the Library on Nov. 17. Additionally, each winner will receive a Little House on the Prairie Prize Pack with memorabilia and other items inspired by the series.
All short stories and contest applications must be received no later than Oct. 31. Submissions may be dropped off at the Library during business hours.
Applications are available in the Library and online at www.BaxLib.org/Little-House-Prairie-Short-Story-Contest
