Friday basketball results include Cotter sweeping Calico Rock

Cotter was able to sweep three basketball games at Calico Rock on Friday.
The Warriors got past the Pirates 48-43 in the senior boys’ game. Ryan Benedict led Cotter with 18 points, and Kolby Woods added 13.
Cotter also took the senior girls’ contest over Calico Rock 45-31. The Lady Warriors were led by Emma Jones with 13 points, and Kylee Chastain chipped in 11. Cotter improves to 2-0 on the season.
In the first game of the night, Myah McNutt hit the game winner with four seconds left to push Cotter’s junior girls past Calico Rock 34-32. McNutt was the Junior Lady Warriors’ top scorer with 13 points. Cotter is now 4-1 on the year.

Viola was swept in three games at Jasper. The senior boys’ game needed overtime as the Longhorns were edged out by the Pirates 65-63. Viola also fell to Jasper 54-42 in the senior girls’ contest. The evening began with the Viola junior girls losing to Jasper 38-20.

Mammoth Spring had a successful homecoming night as they swept KIPP Blytheville in a pair of boys’ games. The Bears invoked the mercy rule in the senior high game as they routed the Thunder 64-31. Mammoth Spring also took the junior high contest 34-22.

The Lead Hill High School teams had a rough outing in Springdale as they were swept by Ozark Catholic. The Tigers lost the boys’ game to the Griffins 61-30. Lead Hill also fell to Ozark Catholic in the girls’ contest 54-28.

Both of Bergman’s teams dominated Cossatot River on the opening night of the Acorn Classic. The Panthers destroyed the Eagles 81-33 in the boys’ game. Bergman also put the mercy rule in effect in the girls’ contest as they pounded Cossatot River 57-20.

The Valley Springs boys had a short but dominating road trip. The Tigers beat up on Alpena 66-27.

Omaha’s boys were able to pick up a win at Eureka Springs. The Eagles defeated the Highlanders 71-56.
