Friday football results include Yellville-Summit losing season finale to Newport

Yellville-Summit ended its football season on a rough note on Friday. The Panthers lost their Senior Night game to Newport 49-20. Yellville-Summit wraps up the year at 4-6 on the season and 0-6 in the 3A-2.

After a rough first half, Salem was able come from behind and defeat Perryville 16-6. The Greyhounds, currently ranked second in Class 3A by the Arkansas Sports Media, improved to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the 3A-2, and they’ll host Quitman next week for Senior Night.

Melbourne had a tough night in front of the home crowd. The Bearkatz suffered a 55-20 defeat to Quitman. Melbourne drops to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the 3A-2, and they’ll finish the regular season next week when they host Atkins.

Harrison invoked the mercy rule in its last home game of the regular season. The Goblins beat up on Clarksville 42-3. Harrison improves to 6-3 on the year and 4-2 in the 5A-West, and they’ll finish the regular season next week at Pea Ridge.

As district play began in Missouri, West Plains picked up an easy win as they hosted an opener in the Class 4, District 6 Playoffs. The Zizzers shut out Monett 50-0. West Plains will stay at home next week for their semifinal game with McDonald County.

Hollister watched its season come to an end in the Class 3, District 6 Playoffs. The Tigers ended up losing at Mount Vernon 42-0.

Forsyth breezed its way through the opening round of the Class 2, District 4 Playoffs. The Panthers routed Willow Springs 65-20. Forsyth will continue with home field advantage when they meet Strafford in next week’s semifinals.

Branson was victorious in its opener in the Class 5, District 6 Playoffs. The Pirates squeaked by Springfield Glendale 41-38. Branson will be on the road for their semifinal game with top-seeded Lebanon next week.
