The Mountain Home High School football team’s last home game ended with a win and a school record being broken. Cade Yates will finish this year with the Bombers’ most passing yards in a season as he helped lead the Bombers to a 41-24 win over Van Buren.
Mountain Home came out scoring the first 13 points of the night, but the Pointers came back and cut the margin to three. Mountain Home later made it a two-possession game again on a 65-yard pass play from Yates to Anthony Milbourne, and the Bombers went into halftime up 10. After Van Buren made a three-point game again in the third quarter, Mountain Home answered with a 12-play, 80-yard drive to go back up 10. They later recovered a squib kick to keep possession of the ball and went up 17 early in the final period. The Pointers got one more touchdown, but they would get no closer as the Bombers answered and went on to post the win.
With at least one game left plus the possible postseason, Yates now has 1,951 passing yards for the season for a new Mountain Home record. He was 19-of-28 for 259 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Chris Hubbard had 36 carries for 237 yards and four scores, Milbourne caught two passes for 111 yards and a touchdown, and Jett Hannaford had six receptions for 70 yards.
The Bombers improve to 5-4 on the season and 3-4 in the 6A-West. Van Buren falls to 3-6 and 2-5.
Mountain Home will finish the regular season next week at Greenbrier.
