Over the last several days, the West Plains Police Department have seen an increase of reports of vehicle burglaries and would like to share tips the public can do to protect themselves and their property.
According to Police Chief Stephen Monticelli, states residents should remove the valuables from the vehicle or hide them from plain sight, lock the car, take the key and do not leave them in the vehicle, park in a well-lit area and turn on outside lights, and “if you see something, say something by calling us.”
Monticelli states criminals look for easy targets. Many vehicle burglaries, and to a lesser degree, stolen vehicles, occur as a result of vehicles being left unlocked. He says criminals walk through neighborhoods, trying vehicle door handles, hoping to find an unlocked vehicle and the best way to prevent vehicle burglaries is to remove all valuables, lock the doors upon exiting and take the keys when leave the vehicle.
Resident can make it more difficult for them by following the #9PMRoutine!
