Lady Bombers open season with win over Mayflower at Valley Springs

The Mountain Home High School girls’ basketball team went to Valley Springs for a victorious season opener on Monday. The Lady Bombers opened the Jake Gray Invitational with a 60-41 victory over Mayflower.

The game was kept close early with two ties and lead changes. Mountain Home started pulling away in the second quarter and took over from there. The Lady Bombers dominated Mayflower on the boards 35-15 as they went up by as much as 21 late in the game before winning by 19.

Jayla Yonkers led Mountain Home with 19 points, Laykin Moore scored 15, and Parker Huskey chipped in 12. For the Lady Eagles, Kiki Williamson had 16 points, and Riley Whittington chipped in 11.

The Lady Bombers start the year at 1-0, and they’ll meet Farmington in Wednesday’s semifinal game. The Lady Cardinals beat Mountain View 65-28 on Monday. The Lady Yellowjackets will face Mayflower on the consolation side of the bracket.

Mountain View fared better on the boys’ side at Valley Springs. The Yellowjackets got past Huntsville 59-55.
