MHHS girls lose to host team in Searcy Classic

The Mountain Home High School girls’ basketball team’s opener in the Searcy Classic ended on a rough note on Tuesday. Matt Sharp has the details.

The Lady Bombers suffered a 62-45 defeat at the hands of the host Lady Lions. Other than a 2-2 tie, Searcy led for the entire game. By the end of the first half, the Lady Lions built a 20-point lead on Mountain Home. The Lady Bombers outscored Searcy in the third quarter as the margin was cut to 14, but they would get no closer. The Lady Lions went back up by 21 in the final period before going on to win by 17.

Laykin Moore led Mountain Home with 18 points, and Jayla Yonkers added 10. Zaniyah Johnson scored 25 points for Searcy, and Sara McCain chipped in 17.

The Lady Lions remain unbeaten in six games on the season. The Lady Bombers fall to 5-3, and they’ll continue action in the Searcy Classic on Friday when they meet Cabot.
