This year’s first state championship in Arkansas high school football football was captured by Rector on Thursday. Cougars’ quarterback Drew Henderson scored on a four-yard run in overtime to push his team past Spring Hill 22-16 for the eight-man title at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.
Henderson was named the game’s most valuable player as he led Rector with 32 carries for 140 yards and two touchdowns, and Kaden Avery ran the ball 11 times for 95 yards and another score. For Spring Hill, TJ Tipton had 20 rushes for 94 yards and a touchdown, and on defense, he recovered a Henderson fumble and returned it 24 yards for a scoop-and-score.
The Cougars finish the season at 10-0. The Bears fall to 9-4.
