Saturday basketball results include Flippin’s boys’ teams winning openers in Izard County Tournament

The Flippin High School boys’ basketball team won its opener in the Izard County Tournament as they beat Calico Rock 62-37 Saturday at Highland. Dominick Hamilton paced the Bobcats with 15 points and 15 rebounds, Alex Glenn scored 14 points, and Christian Wire and Rilyn Robbins each had 12 points. Flippin improves to 12-4 on the season.
Mountain View suffered a loss in the other senior boys’ game. The Yellowjackets were edged out by Cave City 50-48.
Calico Rock had a rough outing in the only senior girls’ game of the day. The Lady Pirates fell to Highland 61-33.
Two junior boys’ games were played at Highland. Flippin defeated Mountain View, and Calico Rock lost to Izard County.
On the junior girls’ bracket, Melbourne ended up losing to Cave City.

Two area boys’ teams played for the championship of the Forsyth Tournament on Saturday. Gainesville came up just short as they fell to Branson 68-65.

Salem’s girls captured the championship of the Williams Baptist University High School Tournament at Walnut Ridge as they topped Jonesboro Westside 54-42. Marleigh Sellars was the Lady Greyhounds’ top scorer with 13 points, and Montana Franks finished with 11. Sellars was joined on the All-Tournament team by teammates Callie Hall and Olivia Dockins.

Two area girls’ teams squared off on the final day of the Charles B. Dyer Classic at Alma as Mammoth Spring fell to Bergman 61-55. The Lady Bears were led by Brynn Washam with 20 points, and Laney Young ended up with 13.

Lead Hill lost their openers in the Anstaff Bank Green Forest Holiday Tournament. The Tigers lost to Huntsville 58-24 on the boys’ side. Lead Hill’s girls were toppled by Green Forest 54-19.

The Bergman boys finished fourth in the V-Town Showdown at Vilonia. The Panthers fell to Van Buren 74-44.

Valley Springs’ girls won their final game in the Benton Holiday Classic. The Lady Tigers pounded Episcopal Collegiate 55-30.

The Jasper boys finished as runners-up of the Anstaff Bank Bev Stone Memorial Border Classic at Omaha. The Pirates fell to the New School 75-55.
