MHHS sweeps Valley View, boys win on banked-in three-pointer at buzzer

The Mountain Home High School basketball teams picked up a sweep over Valley View on Tuesday with the boys’ game having an exciting, dramatic finish. Matt Sharp has the details.

The Bombers’ furious comeback ended with a banked-in three by McGee Harris to beat the buzzer for a 60-59 victory over the Blazers. Mountain Home led for the majority of the first half, but Valley View hit a buzzer beater to end the first half and go into the locker room up one. The Blazers dominated the third quarter by outscoring the Bombers 18-6. Valley View was up 19 at one point in the final period, but Mountain Home then began its comeback. The Bombers hit nine three-pointers in the quarter, and before you knew it, their deficit was down to two. With 5.1 seconds left, the Blazers had an opportunity to seal the win, but Carson Turley missed both free throws, and…

Blaine Tate grabbed the rebound for Mountain Home, drove the ball down the floor and found Harris in the corner. Harris put up the three, and it went off the glass and in as the buzzer sounded for the one-point win.

Harris led the Bombers with 15 points, with 12 coming in the final quarter, Rhett Gilbert scored 11, and Braiden Dewey and Ryder McClain added 10 each. For Valley View, Oliver Barr had 24 points, Gavin Ellis finished with 21, and Hudson Rogers chipped in 10.

The Blazers fall to 5-4 on the season. Mountain Home improves to 7-1, and they’ll continue their home stand on Thursday when they meet West Plains.

The varsity action began with the Lady Bombers getting past Valley View 63-57. This first half was not pretty, but it was a hard-fought battle between the two teams. Mountain Home ended the first half with a four-point advantage. The Lady Bombers seemed poised to pull away as they were up by a dozen to end the third quarter, but the Lady Blazers fought their way back in it. Valley View ran out of time, and Mountain Home held them off for the six-point win.

The Lady Bombers were led by Laykin Moore with 21 points, Anna McCarn ended up with 12, and Jayla Yonkers provided 10. Annika Wilbanks scored 20 points for the Lady Blazers, and Bella Seeman and Bonnie Fagan added 10 each.

Valley View drops to 6-3 on the year. Mountain Home’s girls are now 7-4, and their next game will be Dec. 15 when they travel to Paragould.
