During Thursday night’s Mountain Home City Council meeting, the Council approved the proposed naming of the walking trail in McCabe Park to honor Shirley Baker, who donated the land to the city. The official name will be the Shirley Baker Greenway, and in the coming weeks, a sign will be placed in her honor.

With the assistance of the Garver Group, the Council approved entering into an agreement with The Talm Group to be the construction manager at risk in the second phase of the wastewater treatment plant project. The Talm Group, formerly known as The Crow Group, has done several wastewater treatment projects, including one currently in Batesville.

The Council approved an amendment with Garver to install a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) panel to be installed at the new lift station for the southwest collection system improvements project.

Budget adjustments for the 4th quarter for the Police Department, Parks Department, Fire Department, Water and Sewer Department and Court Automation were approved by the Council. The funds adjusted were already in the department’s budgets and were moved to a different line item to cover the costs.

The Council approved updates to an ordinance to amend the rates for fees and penalties for the city’s Water Department. Director of the Water and Sewer Department, Steve Hill, stated some of the fees and penalties in the current ordinance had yet to be updated since 2007, and the new rates would help cover the costs to connect or disconnect services. With the new ordinance in place, customers will be charged a non-refundable fee of $30 for each service turned on; a $125 deposit for residential and $189 for commercial customers; and a $50 disconnection fee and $50 reconnection fee when service is restored. The ordinance update also states no more than one residential or one business shall be served through one meter, except where there are special conditions.

In closing business, the Council approved the 2024 following the recent budget workshop; and amended an ordinance to adjust the wage scale for 2024 to match the approved budget. The Council also approved a 3% cost of living increase for three retired city employees.
