
Mountain Home’s junior high boys’ basketball teams had a rough outing as they were swept in three games by Greene County Tech Thursday at Paragould.
The Junior Bombers lost the freshman game to the Junior Golden Eagles 43-38. Mountain Home was led by Gus Wilber with 13 points, and Bailor Tate finished with 11. The Junior Bombers fall to 4-5 on the season.
The eighth grade contest needed overtime, but Mountain Home was edged out by Tech 37-36. Tanner Alkire was the Eighth Grade Bombers’ top scorer with 14 points, and Max Bryant ended up with 11.
The evening began with Mountain Home’s seventh graders falling to Tech 27-25.
The Flippin High School girls ended up losing on their home floor. The Lady Bobcats fell to Strafford, Missouri, 52-46.
The Izard County Tournament began its semifinal round on Thursday.
Izard County’s senior boys advanced to Saturday’s championship game after breezing past Highland 64-37. Gabe Spray paced the Cougars with 22 points, and Keaton Melton added 15. Izard County improves to 3-1 on the season.
The Izard County girls will join their male counterparts after pulling off the 69-67 upset victory over Mountain View. The Lady Cougars were led by Quinn Johnson with 36 points, Olivia Spray scored 15, and Makensie Yancey chipped in 10. Izard County is now 5-2 on the year.
Calico Rock had a tough night in the junior girls’ game. The Junior Lady Pirates lost to Mountain View 64-27.
The junior boys’ contest ended with Melbourne falling to Highland 47-28.
Two area schools played in the consolation bracket of the Anstaff Bank Green Forest Holiday Tournament. Lead Hill’s boys were eliminated by Omaha 74-49. On the girls’ side, Lead Hill was bounced by Huntsville 59-21, and Omaha lost to Berryville 60-36.
The Bergman girls began the Tournament of Champions on a rough note at Southside High School in Fort Smith. The Lady Panthers suffered a 51-45 defeat at the hands of Sapulpa, Oklahoma.
Harrison’s boys won their opener in the Arvest Hoopfest at Heritage High School in Rogers. The Goblins got past Rogers by a score of 68-62.
