
An area school has been placed among the 2024 Best Middle Schools in the country by U.S. News and World Report. Calico Rock is on the list of more than 79,000 public elementary and middle schools in the United States, and it is ranked among the top 40% in Arkansas.
In a news release, Calico Rock officials state they have implemented new curriculum. They also have new remediation time to give students more individualized instruction and fill in any gaps occurring in previous learning.
The methodology reportedly focuses on state assessments of students proficient or above proficient in mathematics and reading/language arts while accounting for student backgrounds, achievement in core subjects and the quality of education for a school’s students. Student-teacher ratios are applied to break ties in the overall score.
The 2024 Best Elementary and Best Middle Schools rankings are based on data available to the public from the U.S. Department of Education. For district-level rankings, a minimum of two of the top performing schools must rank in the top 75% of the overall elementary or middle school rankings to qualify for district-level recognition.
