MH School Board approves six year Master Plan Thursday night

The Mountain Home Public Schools Board of Education met Thursday night in regular session for their last meeting before the upcoming holiday break.

During the facilities update, Director of Operations Chris Knight, shared the security door updates for all buildings are nearing completion. The Kindergarten and Nelson-Wilks Herron campuses are complete, Pinkston will be completed next week and pre-wiring at Hackler and the junior high has been completed. The high school will be worked on during the Christmas break.

Knight also shared the striping on the track has been finished and the project is 100% complete. He stated when the time comes for the track to be resurfaced in the future, which could be eight to 10 years down the line, the asphalt would need to be replaced and would cost double the amount of what was spent this year, which was approximately $229,000.

The new smoke detection system in the big top was not able to be installed over Thanksgiving break but will now be installed over the Christmas Break. Knight stated he will be meeting with a Fire Engineer Inspector from Northwest Arkansas for the first walkthrough on December 20.

In Board action items, the Board approved the 2024 six-year Master Plan and resolution to apply for the 2025-26 Partnership Cycle for funding. The Master Plan approved Thursday night has not changed from reading the past few months and is a living document which can change as needs change.

The Board approved a resolution to do business with a school employee who owns a small business called SJ Leather Creations.

The Board also approved to policy changes from the Classified Personnel Policy Committee. The first would add two classified employees to the finance committee, which had previously been made up of certified members, giving classified employees representation. Along with a policy which had not been updated since 2006 which aligns with the latest state policies for overtime, comp-time and complying with FLSA for classified employees.

And in closing, the Board approved a proposal, which will go to the CPPC, to add a district security and safety coordinator to the staff, if needed in the future. Superintendent Allyson Dewey stated the position proposal was only for if the Board felt it was needed in the future and would only be recommended if a current SRO were to leave a position.
