A Western Grove man has been arrested after allegedly threatening law enforcement officers and resisting arrest.
According to the probable cause statement in the case, on Dec. 6, deputies were dispatched to the area of Cane Branch Road in Western Grove in reference of a male subject driving up and down the road in a truck and pointing his firearm at people.
After authorities arrived on scene, they noticed a shotgun laying on top of a truck parked in the yard of 62-year-old Michael Grinder, which matched the caller’s description. Immediately after, a male voice started yelling from a window of the residence. After authorities identified themselves, Grinder allegedly continued to yell making statements such as, “Who do you think you are?” and “I am warning you, I have you zeroed.” Officials note it is a common reference meaning “I have you in my sights.”
Shortly after Grinder made that statement, Sheriff Cassell identified himself and attempted to communicate with Grinder in which Grinder allegedly replied, “I’ll kill the sheriff just as I would you.”
Authorities note Grinder’s hands were constantly fiddling with something, and his actions looked to be as if he was loading a firearm. Due to the actions, authorities asked what Grinder was doing in which he replied “About to shoot that (Expletive),” in reference to the Chief Deputy who was walking in plain sight back to his patrol unit. At that time, Grinder allegedly disappeared from the window and as a precaution other authorities relocated behind the patrol units for cover.
Grinder then emerged from his porch with a dark colored handgun in his left hand.
Grinder was told to drop the gun and he complied, and he was then placed under arrest for the terroristic threats made towards the sheriff and other deputies. During the event of placing cuffs on Grinder, authorities note he began to resist arrest by slinging his arms and elbowing deputies. Deputies also located a knife on Grinder’s person while he was being placed in the patrol unit.
Grinder was then transported to the Searcy County Sheriff’s Department, and on the way Grinder allegedly repeatedly kicked a deputy in the back of the head with his shoes/feet resulting in a serious pain for the deputy.
Grinder has been charged with two felony counts of terroristic threatening and aggravated assault, and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and third degree assault.
He is being held in the Searcy County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond.
