A Wednesday night fire damaged the outer part of a residence southeast of Buford. Everyone in the residence at 587 County Road 643 was able to get out safely and avoid injury.
According to an incident from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was dispatched to the scene of the structure fire. When he arrived, the Buford, Mountain Home and Tracy Ferry fire departments were on the scene, and the fire had been extinguished.
The homeowner, identified as Johnny Potter, told the deputy the fire started at his recently-purchased wood stove. The fire spread, but he and another male residing in a camper on the property next to the residence extinguished the majority of the blaze before fire personnel arrived on the scene. Both men were able to get everyone out the residence.
Buford Fire Chief Will Syfrett says the fire was mainly contained to the outer walls, though the inside sustained smoke damage.
