
Wednesday was the second day of the North Arkansas College Invitational Tournament at the Pioneer Pavilion in Harrison. On the boys’ side, Norfork was eliminated by Rural Special, and Jasper defeated Kingston 72-50. On the girls’ bracket, Rural Special lost to Jasper 55-53, and Valley Springs bounced Kingston 62-52.
Three area boys’ teams played their second games in the Cabool Holiday Tournament.
Viola squeaked by Houston 61-59. Braden Williams paced the Longhorns with 25 points, Quade Perryman scored 13, and Kody Hart had 11.
Gainesville suffered their first loss in the tournament. The Bulldogs fell to Mountain View-Liberty 74-56.
Dora needed overtime, but they were able to get past Winona 47-41. The Falcons were led by Ashton Roberts with 13 points.
Viola’s girls were victorious in their opener in the Lady Blackhawk Holiday Invitational at Pea Ridge. The Lady Longhorns picked up a 45-34 win over Bauxite.
Gainesville had another win as they hosted the second day of the Lady Bulldog Holiday Tournament. Gainesville topped Couch 51-37.
The Salem boys had a rough outing in their opener in the Big River Steel Lion Holiday Classic at Manila. The Greyhounds lost to the host school 62-46.
Izard County’s girls had a lopsided win in the Division 2 quarterfinals of the NEA Tournament as they destroyed Buffalo Island Central 64-35 on the campus of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. Quinn Johnson was the Lady Cougars’ leading scorer with 16 points, Tinley Bailey finished with 14, Olivia Spray ended up with 12, and Makensie Yancey added 10 points. Izard County improves to 9-5 on the season, and they’ll compete in the semifinals Friday morning.
The Melbourne boys breezed their way into the Maverick Division semifinals of the Bad Boy Mowers Ronnie Brogdon Invitational at Highland. The Bearkatz beat up on Charleston 75-46.
Two area schools played their openers in the CS Bank Holiday Hoops Tournament at Berryville. On the boys’ side, Bergman defeated Strong 74-53, and Omaha fell to Clinton 76-59. In the girls’ games, Bergman routed Shirley 63-15, and Omaha lost to Clinton 71-25.
