A Missouri woman was killed in a three-vehicle accident late Wednesday afternoon in Howell County. Thirty-two-year-old Katherine Welch of Thayer was pronounced dead at the scene by the Howell County coroner.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Welch was traveling on U.S. Highway 63. She was nearly two miles north of Brandsville when her vehicle crossed the center of the roadway and struck a vehicle driven by 46-year-old Matthew Kirby of Saffell, Ark. Kirby’s vehicle ran off the roadway, and Welch’s vehicle collided head-on with a third vehicle driven by 68-year-old Larry Gilchrist of Ainsworth, Iowa. Gilchrist’s vehicle ran off the road, and Welch’s vehicle came to a rest in the center of the roadway.
Welch’s death is the 41st fatality reported by Troop G this year compared to 32 at the same time in 2022. All three vehicles were totaled in the 4:45 p.m. accident.
