Clay County jailer arrested for using debit card to withdraw money from inmate’s bank account

A jailer in Clay County is accused of using a debit card to withdraw money from an inmate’s account. Nineteen-year-old Jason Jeffries of Piggott has been arrested and is facing charges of fraudulent use of a credit or debit card and theft of property.

According to a Facebook post from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the detention center became aware Dec. 23 of a missing inmate debit card. Five days later, the sheriff’s office discovered Jeffries had not followed policy and procedure when dealing with an inmate or his personal property. It was also determined that the jailer had used the inmate’s debit card to withdraw money out of the inmate’s account.
