Tuesday basketball results include Norfork boys getting eliminated from district tournament

Five area high school basketball teams competed on the opening night of the 1A-2 District Tournament Tuesday at West Side High School in Greers Ferry.
Norfork’s boys watched their season come to an end in the final game of the evening. The Panthers were eliminated by Viola 55-48.
Calico Rock came up just short in the other boys’ contest. The Pirates were edged out by Timbo 56-54.
Calico Rock was also one and done on the girls’ side of the tournament. The Lady Pirates lost to Shirley 42-33.

Three area teams took part in the second night of the 3A-1 District Tournament at Valley Springs.
Flippin’s girls fell one win short of securing a regional bid. The Lady Bobcats were bounced from the bracket with a 51-45 loss to Elkins.
Flippin suffered the same fate on the boys’ side of the district tournament. The Bobcats fell to Lincoln 49-44.
Valley Springs was able to advance to the semifinals following the other boys’ game. In a battle between Tigers, Valley Springs beat West Fork 67-59.

Izard County hosted the second night of the 2A-2 District Tournament at Brockwell.
In boys’ action, the Cougars erased a five-point halftime deficit, dominated the second half and breezed past Mount Vernon-Enola 71-51. Cash Arnhart was Izard County’s top scorer with 18 points, Gabe Spray had 14, and Jude Everett added 15. The Cougars improve to 22-8 on the year, and they’ll advance to play top-seeded Marshall in Thursday’s semifinals.
Izard County’s girls will be joining their male counterparts in next week’s regional tournament after eliminating Cedar Ridge 75-54. Quinn Johnson paced the Lady Cougars with 24 points, Olivia Spray provided 16, and Makensie Yancey chipped in 15. Izard County’s record is now 21-9, and their next opponent on Thursday will be top-seeded Mount Vernon-Enola.
Marshall also secured a regional bid in the other girls’ game as they had an easy 53-30 victory over Sloan-Hendrix. The Lady Bobcats will take on Quitman Thursday in the district semifinals.

Two area girls’ teams won their openers in the 1A-1 East District Tournament at Jasper. Lead Hill invoked the mercy rule as they routed Mount Judea 55-21. Omaha was dominant in the last game as they beat up on Deer 65-40.

Elsewhere, Bakersfield’s girls were able to pick up a win in front of their home crowd. The Lady Lions topped Dora 70-46.

The Gainesville boys had a tough outing on the road. The Bulldogs ended up losing at Hartville 64-34.
