
The Mountain Home High School softball team was victorious in its opener in the Class 5A State Tournament Thursday at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison. The Lady Bombers defeated Texarkana 6-2.
Emma King picked up the win in the circle as she struck out five batters, and she also went 1-for-4 at the plate and drove in a run. Laken Anderson led Mountain Home by going 3-for-4 with an RBI, Libby Dewey was 1-for-3 and was hit by a pitch, Karleigh Drewry went 1-for-3, Kiley Horne and Daelyn Harper were both 1-for-4 with an RBI, and Natalie Fleet went 1-for-4.
The Lady Bombers improve to 17-11 on the season.
Cotter’s softball team watched its season come to an end in the Class 2A State Tournament at Palestine-Wheatley High School. The Lady Warriors fell to Rison 11-2.
Three area schools were one and done in the Class 1A State Softball Tournament hosted by Greers Ferry West Side. Viola lost to Scranton 10-2, Lead Hill was defeated by Concord 17-0, and Jasper was toppled by Shirley 15-0.
Three area softball teams began action in the Class 3A State Tournament at Majestic Park in Hot Springs.
Salem’s first loss of the season came in the opening round. The Lady Greyhounds’ season ended with a 4-1 loss to Genoa Central.
Melbourne was able to advance to Friday’s quarterfinals. The Lady Bearkatz shut out Fouke by a final of 3-0.
Valley Springs was bounced from the first round of the tournament. The Lady Tigers fell to Harding Academy 6-1.
The Mountain Home baseball team’s season ended at the hands of Lake Hamilton in the Class 5A State Tournament at Harrison. After the Bombers tied the game up in the top of the seventh inning, a walkoff hit in the bottom half pushed the Wolves to a 4-3 win. Mountain Home wraps up the year at 17-11-1.
Two area baseball teams squared off in the opening round of the Class 1A State Tournament hosted by Greers Ferry West Side. Norfork defeated Jasper by a score of 12-0.
The Mountain View boys’ soccer team was victorious in its opener in the Class 3A State Tournament hosted by Bergman. The Yellowjackets edged out LISA Academy North 5-4.
The Harrison girls’ soccer team also won its first match in the Class 5A State Tournament hosted by Hot Springs Lakeside. The Lady Goblins shut out El Dorado 2-0.
