A Gassville man has been arrested after he allegedly kicked his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach. One felony charge has been filed against 28-year-old Justin James Coddington following the altercation.

According to the probable cause affidavit in the case, Baxter County Sheriff’s Deputies were told by the victim she and Coddington had argued over fuel use and he had called their children a profane name. She told him not to speak about their children like that and he responded by pushing her and kicking her in the stomach. The victim was then taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment.

During an interview two days after the incident, the victim told investigators the doctor at the hospital said the only thing that saved the baby from serious injury was at its young stage of development, the pelvic area was still protecting it.

Coddington is facing a felony charge of battery in the third degree. He is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond.
