A Mountain Home woman became a drowning victim after she went under water in Ozark County Saturday afternoon. Sixty-three-year-old Julia Monroe was pronounced dead at Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Monroe was nearly a half mile south of the Dawt Mill bridge on the North Fork River. She reportedly had trouble exiting her inner tube around 1:25 and went under the water for a lengthy period of time before being recovered by a nearby swimmer. She was pronounced dead at the hospital less than an hour later.

This is the third drowning reported by Troop G this year, compared to five at the same time in 2023. The highway patrol was assisted on the scene by the Ozark County Sheriff’s Office.
