In 2006, a significant addition was made to Bull Shoals-White River State Park and named after a local businessman, sportsman and philanthropist. The James A. Gaston Visitor Center offers a first-hand look at the history behind the White River, Bull Shoals Lake and the Bull Shoals Dam.

Park Interpreter Jackie Rupp will be a guest on an upcoming edition of the Talk of the Town on KTLO-FM. She says the visitor center is full of exhibits on the river, the lake and the area overall.

The center is a $4.7 million complex covering 15,000 square feet. Rupp says its namesake was an easy call considering how much Gaston did for conservation and tourism in the area.

Rupp estimates anywhere between 75,000 and 100,000 people visit the visitor center annually to experience the beauty and the history of the Twin Lakes Area, and they don’t have to pay a charge due in part to the 75th Amendment to the Arkansas Constitution.
