Dani Pugsley, Chamber CEO presenting to local leaders on work force initiative.
The Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class is working to bring a new certification to Mountain Home and Baxter County with the hope to create new economic growth for the area as a whole.
The Chamber Leadership Class is an annual class held by the local chamber of commerce to equip future community leaders by teaching participants about the inner workings of local government, community based organizations and local businesses. One of the tasks of the class is to choose a community project for the year that benefits the community directly. The leadership class this year in partnership with ASUMH, MHPS and the Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce has chosen the task of getting Mountain Home and Baxter County National Career Ready Certified (NCRC). This certification is a way to demonstrate to incoming investors and developers that the Twin Lakes Area has a competent and ready work force. Local businesses benefit from a strengthened and equipped work force leading to improved job performance and retention. Data shows that communities that participate see increased career opportunities for employees.
Chan Crooker a Senior Vice President at Century Bank of the Ozarks and a member of this year’s leadership class shares more on the benefits for the community at large.
Listen:
The process for getting the NCRC certification is simple and free to local businesses according to leadership class member Shane Brockwell, the marketing and rental manager for Marchant Building Center. Also, local businesses can have confidence that hiring employees that are work ready certified are better equipped to perform well on the job.
Listen:
Crooker, who also serves as a board member on the North Central Arkansas Economic Alliance says there is a real gap in North Central Arkansas and this could be the spark that makes the area more competitive with other regions across the state and nationwide.
Listen:
54 local businesses are needed to sign up for the area to become NCRC certified. Currently 19 companies have already signed up in support of the initiative. To sign up visit www.workreadycommunities.org. Questions can be directed to the Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce by calling 870-425-5511.
