Baxter Co. sales tax sees decrease for July, increase for City of Mountain Home

Sales tax numbers for Baxter County are down for July while the City of Mountain Home sees an increase.

According Mountain Homes Director of Finance and Treasury Alma Clark, the city collected a total of $604,958 in city sales tax revenue for July which is an increase of 1.9114% for the month. Year-to-date, the city has seen a total increase of $85,838 or 2.1529%.

Figures released by Baxter County Treasurer Jenay Mize show Baxter County’s revenue portion equals $517,619. This time last year, Baxter County received $520,434 which is a decrease of $2,814 or 0.5%.

Sales tax reports are released by the state Department of Finance and Administration two months after the taxes are collected by area businesses. The following numbers were received in July, which reflect area spending from the month of May.

Mountain Home received $280,009 in county sales tax. When compared to last year’s total of $281,532, which is a decrease of 0.5408%. The year-to-date increase equals $41,756 or 2.2745%.

Other Baxter County cities receiving revenue from the county’s sales tax include:

– Gassville, which received $47,399;

– Cotter, which received $19,344;

– Lakeview, which received $16,920;

– Salesville, which received $10,327;

– Norfork, which received $10,152;

– Briarcliff, which received $5,152; and

– Big Flat, which received $1,921.

Baxter County received $227,211 in revenue from its 0.25% sales tax for maintenance and operation of the Baxter County Detention Center.

Mountain Home received $226,859 from its 0.375% sales tax to support its police and fire departments. At this time last year, the city received $222,604, which is a monthly increase of 1.9114%. The year-to-date increase is nearly $32,202 or 2.1538%.

Mountain Home has collected nearly $302,479 for July from the park improvement sales tax, which is $82,195 more than needed for Bond Payment of $220,283 for 2024.

Park operation sales tax for July equals $151,239.
