Students in the Twin Lakes Area are less than a month away from returning to the classrooms, and a couple of local school districts are getting ready to present some additions. Cotter and Yellville-Summit were able to add classrooms and other construction projects, and both districts were able to do so without asking the public for a millage increase.
Cotter School District Superintendent Jayme Jones will be an upcoming guest of the Talk of the Town on KTLO-FM. Jones says they were able to expand by the current high school building.
Listen:
Jones says in addition to classrooms, the new building will include a safe room.
Listen:
Jones goes on to say the district has worked on improving school safety over the last two or three years.
Listen:
Some work is also being done on the gymnasium. Cotter Coliseum is slated to have a new ceiling and a new roof to correct its issue with leaks.
Yellville-Summit School District Superintendent will be a guest on another episode of the Talk of the Town. He says their construction projects were courtesy of state partnership funding and the American Rescue Plan Act.
Listen:
Like Cotter, Yellville-Summit will also have a safe shelter in case of severe storms or other needs that might have to be met. Henderson says the shelter was already planned, but it has been made stronger than expected due to state code.
Listen:
Yellville-Summit’s first day of classes will be Aug. 14, and Cotter will begin sessions Aug. 15.
