The ASU-Mountain Home baseball team and several of the school’s athletes are being recognized for their performances in the classroom.
The 2024 TrailBlazer baseball team was honored as one of the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Academic Teams of the Year with an overal team grade point average of 3.21. Individually, Hayden Prewitt, Roger Alexzander, Gabriel Ellison and Alexzander Thrasher were named to the NJCAA All-Academic First Team with GPAs of 4.0. Holden Yaksick, Kirk Martinson, Trenton Smith, Matthew Byars, Joseph Hardin, Thomas Koettker and Caden Heckendorn made the second team for finishing with GPAs between 3.8 and 3.89. Third team members with GPAs between 3.69 and 3.79 include Kolby Webb, Wyatt Goodman, Hunter Wood, Ckyler Tengler, Issac House, Cade Collins and Darren Crane.
Four ASU-Mountain Home softball team members were also placed on the NJCAA All-Academic Third Team. Cheyenne Merkle, Kaitlyn Horton, Calli Dunn and Ashley Earley all finished with GPAs between 3.69 and 3.79.
TrailBlazer head baseball coach and athletic director Spencer Adcock said in a statement, “We are extremely proud of these athletes!! Not only have they been recognized for their personal and team achievements they have we also had 27 baseball student athletes obtain their degree this year!!
“It’s extremely exciting to see young people recognized for their accomplishments! We are excited for these student athletes and proud that they have laid the foundation for success and help to set the standard of a young program!”
The academic awards come a few months after the ASU-Mountain Home baseball team had several awards for their play on the field. Trey Jordan received an NJCAA Gold Glove and was named NJCAA All-Region, Natural State All-Arkansas First Team, JBB Report All-American Second Team and National Scouting Bureau All-American Second Team. Alex Harrell was selected NJCAA All-Region Honorable Mention, JBB Report All-American First Team, National Scouting Bureau All-American Second Team and Natural State All-Arkansas Honorable Mention.
Other NJCAA All-Region Honorable Mentions went to Webb, Tristan Wheelus, Trent Jordan, Tengler, Jason Young, Jackson Down, Ellison and Chris Tillery. Trent Jordan, Sammy Lemond, Tillery and Webb joined Harrell for Natural State All-Arkansas Honorable Mention.
