A Marion County man has been arrested after leading law enforcement in Boone County on a motorcycle pursuit with speeds reaching 112 miles-per-hour. Facing seven charges for the incident is 33-year-old Michael David Woods of rural Yellville.
According to the probable cause affidavit from the Harrison Police Department, law enforcement received a call about three possibly intoxicated people riding on a motorcycle. An officer initiated a traffic stop as the motorcycle pulled into a residence on Arkansas State Highway 7 North. Two female passengers got off the motorcycle, but the driver, Woods, made a u-turn in the grass and sped off.
The officer began the pursuit which quickly reached speeds of 100 miles-per-hour. Woods was driving on the wrong side of the highway, driving on the shoulder and, as they passed through Bergman, the officer noted their speed was up to 112 miles-per-hour.
The pursuit turned onto State Highway 281 with Woods continuing to drive on the wrong side of the highway. Law enforcement tried to box him in near TZ Ranch Road, but he sped through the ditch line and reentered the roadway. A short distance later, Woods broke hard and the officer’s patrol car struck the rear of Woods’ motorcycle, causing him to lose control and lay the bike over. He was taken into custody and an ambulance was called to check on his medical condition.
Woods is charged with a felony count of fleeing along with misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a breathalyzer test, reckless driving, not having a motorcycle endorsement, driving left of center and having no liability insurance. He is free after posting $15,000 bond.
