Arkansas State Police (ASP) report that Thursday morning state troopers were lead on a chase into North Little Rock by a suspect who had stolen a charter bus.

According to ASP officials, 29-year-old Elvin Richard of Lonoke County stole a charter bus belonging to Village Travel out of Little Rock around 3 a.m.

Authorities were able to spot the stolen bus around 7:40 a.m. but when trying to initiate a traffic stop, Richard fled from the troopers going eastbound on Interstate 40 before turning onto Highway 161 and then onto the railroad tracks.

Officials state that Richard drove into the Union Pacific Rail Yard Terminal at 1020 West Bethany in North Little Rock where Troopers were eventually able to disable the charter bus by shooting its tires out.

Authorities were able to arrest Richard and transfer him to the Pulaski County Detention Center without any further incident. ASP officials note that Richard didn’t receive any injuries in the process of his arrest.

The ASP Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the officer-involved shooting portion of the incident and the Little Rock Police Department is investigating the bus theft.

Officials state there were no passengers on the charter bus at the time of the theft.
