According to court documents, 29-year-old Jennifer Tinnin of Berryville is being charged with first-degree attempted murder, arson, and first degree criminal mischief.
According to investigators, a Berryville police officer spotted Tinnin on July 28th walking down the street carrying a small dog. According to the officer, Tinnin’s walking behavior was suspicious. Within a few minutes, the officer received a call from dispatch about a house fire on Pritchard Street. Upon arrival, the officer saw a woman helping a man out of a burning house.
At this point, the officer went to assist the man to his walker in the front yard. According to the officer, he knew the man and knew he had several medical conditions that lead to him having difficulty walking.
As firefighters from the Berryville Fire Department extinguished the flames, officers interviewed the man who was pulled out of the house.
The man told the deputies that he and Tinnin had an altercation causing Tinnin to enter the bedroom, walk out, and then grab her dog and leave. Moments after Tinnin exited the build, the man claims to have heard explosions coming from her room.
The man says he had a box of mortar fireworks in that bedroom and was certain the explosions came from the mortar fireworks detonating.
When investigators were able to enter the building, they found several large pieces of charred fireworks that had all been discharged.
Court documents state that on August 1st, a Carroll County Sheriff’s Office investigator had a phone recording between Tinnin and her incarcerated boyfriend, Dillion Carpenter. In the phone call, Tinnin admits to Carpenter that she set the house on fire as the two made plans to move to Colorado.
According to authorities, Tinnin was aware that the man in the house suffered from a disability that would have prevent him from exiting the building on his own. Investigators say the man would’ve died if he hadn’t received help.
