A Mountain Home traffic signal damaged last month by a vehicle accident is another step toward getting its necessary repairs. Parts needed for the stop light at the intersection of U.S. Highway 62B and Arkansas Highway 5 North were reportedly shipped Friday should be arriving this week.

Scott Manchester of the Mountain Home Street Department says once the repairs begin, it should take a couple of days to get the signal fully functional.

Manchester says while the repairs are in progress, the intersection will remain a four-way stop, but there will not be any need for the area to be closed to traffic.

The damage to the signal occurred Aug. 23 when 72-year-old John Surber Jr. of rural Summit was attempting to elude a Mountain Home officer. Surber went through the intersection and traveled over the curb, striking the utility box and a fire hydrant before coming to rest. He is facing charges of second-degree criminal mischief, fleeing, driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.
