
The Yellville-Summit High School football team began its season-ending two-game home stand on a rough note on Friday. The Panthers suffered a 50-14 defeat at the hands of Atkins. Yellville-Summit falls to 2-7 on the season and 0-6 in the 3A-2, and they’ll finish the year next week by hosting Episcopal Collegiate for Senior Night.
Salem was able to go on the road and hand Mayflower its first loss of the season. The Greyhounds squeaked by with a 28-27 win over the Eagles, who are currently ranked fifth in Class 3A by the Arkansas Sports Media. Salem is now 6-3 overall and 5-1 in the 3A-2, and they’ll finish the regular season Thursday at Quitman.
Izard County had another struggle as they returned to the home turf. The Cougars lost to Earle by a final of 60-0. Izard County drops to 0-9 overall and 0-6 in the 2A-2, and they’ll host Marianna next week for Senior Night.
Melbourne wrapped up the week with a successful Senior Night. The Bearkatz tripled up Episcopal Collegiate with a 42-14 decision. Melbourne improves to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in the 3A-2, and their regular season finale will be next Friday at Mountain View.
Mountain View was unable to hold on to its early lead. The Yellowjackets ended up falling at home to Quitman 54-30. Mountain View is now 4-5 on the season and 2-4 in the 3A-2.
Harrison came up just short in its last road trip of the season. The Goblins lost to Greenbrier 35-28. Harrison falls to 1-8 on the the year and 1-5 in the 5A-West, and they’ll host Pea Ridge next week for Senior Night.
The postseason got underway in Missouri with the start of district play, and two area teams squared off in the opening round in the Class 3, District 6 Playoffs. Hollister ended up losing at Forsyth 46-20. The Tigers finish the season at 2-8. The Panthers improve to 6-4, and they’ll host East Newton next Friday.
Ava was upset in front of its home crowd to begin the Class 2, District 4 Playoffs. The Bears fell to Houston 40-32. Ava’s final record is 7-3.
