The Mountain Home High School football team’s quest for a conference championship and a first round bye in the postseason came up well short. The Bombers, ranked 10th in the state overall and third in Class 6A by the Arkansas Sports Media, were shut out at Greenwood 42-0 in their regular season finale.

It didn’t take the Bulldogs, ranked third overall and No. 1 in Class 6A, long to get their first score on the board as Kaylor Jasna broke several tackles ran the ball into the end zone from 28 yards out just over a minute into the contest. As the opening quarter went on, Mountain Home’s defense stepped up and forced a fumble and a turnover on downs. The Bombers’ offense looked appeared to be driving nearly halfway through the period, but the possession ended with an interception. Greenwood added another touchdown with 5 1/2 minutes left in the first half when Kane Archer was back to pass, but when he couldn’t find an open receiver, he finished the play with a 14-yard keeper. Mountain Home lined up for a field goal on the final play of the half, but after a bad snap, Bryce Kincaid picked up the ball and attempted a pass that fell incomplete. The Bulldogs dominated the second half as they scored four touchdowns and invoked the mercy rule on the way to an undefeated regular season.

The Bombers ended up with 176 yards on 53 carries. Barrett Miller had 23 of those rush attempts for 98 yards.

Mountain Home falls to 8-2 on the season and 5-2 in the 6A-West. Greenwood improves to 10-0 and 7-0.

The Bombers will begin action in the Class 6A State Playoffs next week by hosting Sheridan.
