A woman who was instrumental in helping preserve the history of Calico Rock has died. Peggy Wiseman Hudson died Sunday in Mountain Home at the age of 91.
According to a Facebook post from the Calico Rock Museum and Visitor’s Center, Hudson lived in the Wiseman Hotel on Main Street with her parents growing up where Cooper’s Antiques is located today.
Dean Hudson was a teacher and became the Mountain Home School District Superintendent. He and Peggy, along with her parents, founded White River Healthcare & Rehab, a skilled care nursing facility which opened in 1967.
Peggy was the administrator but earned her nursing degree. When Dean retired from the school business in 1975, she told him he was the new administrator so she could care for the patients.
Years later, she and Dean started the efforts to save all of the old buildings on Main Street that had fallen into the pages of history. They attended meetings and work sessions together for a time, until her health began to falter.
Funeral arrangements for Peggy Wiseman Hudson will be private. Arrangements are by Roller Funeral Home.
