
Several high school basketball teams returned to the Pioneer Pavilion in Harrison for the second day of the North Arkansas College Invitational Tournament on Friday.
Norfork’s boys were able to advance to the consolation championship game. The Panthers breezed past Alpena 67-41.
Jasper will be Norfork’s final opponent in the tournament. The Pirates defeated West Fork 72-53.
Yellville-Summit will advance to the title game of the boys’ bracket. The Panthers held off a Marshall comeback for a 47-40 victory.
Valley Springs will be Yellville-Summit’s opponent for the championship. Marshall’s junior varsity team lost to the Tigers 48-6.
Norfork’s girls ended up getting sent to the third place game of the tournament. The Lady Panthers fell to Valley Springs 71-28.
Yellville-Summit will be Norfork’s last opponent this week. The Lady Panthers lost the other semifinal to Marshall 56-42.
Jasper advanced to the consolation final. The Lady Pirates topped Alpena 73-55.
The Rumble in the Rock Basketball Tournament held its semifinal round at Calico Rock.
The host Pirates will move on to the boys’ championship game. Calico Rock picked up a 61-53 victory over Hillcrest.
Mammoth Spring will be the Pirates’ last opponent in the tournament. The Bears beat Kingston 54-48.
Calico Rock also won its girls’ semifinal game. The Lady Pirates defeated Mammoth Spring 47-37.
Kingston will be Calico Rock’s championship opponent. The Lady Yellowjackets topped Cedar Ridge 57-45.
Salem’s girls had another dominating win in the Heber Springs Holiday Classic as they pounded the host Lady Panthers 63-39. Hadley Reed led the Lady Greyhounds with 19 points, and Alli Smith added 17. Salem improves to 8-4 on the season.
Izard County had mixed results as they hosted Harding Academy.
The Cougars took the boys’ game over the Wildcats 52-38. Izard County was led by Gabe Spray with 20 points, and Cash Arnhart chipped in 14. The Cougars are now 8-8 on the year.
Izard County did not fare as well in the girls’ contest. The Lady Cougars were edged out by Harding Academy 72-69.
Melbourne was able to sweep Rural Special on its home floor. The Lady Bearkatz beat the Lady Rebels 43-37. Melbourne also topped Rural Special in the boys’ game 62-47.
Harrison split its high school games with Bentonville West at Centerton. The Lady Goblins came away with a 43-38 win over the Lady Wolverines. Harrison was not as fortunate in the boys’ game as they fell to Bentonville West 55-54.
