A Jasper man is in the Newton County Jail on allegations of firing shots at a residence last weekend. Thirty-nine-year-old Kurt Gronwaldt is facing felony counts of first-degree terroristic threatening and possession of a firearm by certain persons with bond set at $100,000.
According to the Arkansas State Police, Newton County deputies responded at around 4 on the afternoon of Jan. 11 to a report of shots being fired in the 600 block of East Court Street in Jasper. Witnesses claim Gronwaldt fired a shotgun at the residence, damaged property and was behaving erratically. During the confrontation, the homeowner reportedly shot Gronwaldt in the hand.
Gronwaldt fled the scene but was later found by deputies on Arkansas Highway 7 North after being involved in a single-vehicle accident. He was flown by air ambulance to CoxHealth Medical Center South in Springfield for treatment.
Gronwaldt was booked after turning himself in at the Newton County Sheriff’s Office. His casefile is being presented to the 14th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to determine if further charges should be filed.
