The Mountain Home High School basketball teams’ final outing on their home floor this season ended with mixed results as they hosted Alma on Saturday for Senior Day.
The Lady Bombers began the afternoon with a 72-51 victory over the Lady Airedales. The first half of the game was back-and-forth as there were nine lead changes and seven ties. It looked like Alma would be going into the locker room with a one-point halftime lead, but Brooklynn Mitchell hit a layup just before the buzzer to give Mountain Home the advantage. The Lady Bombers came out firing in the third quarter, and the Lady Airedales seemed to struggle with their shots. Mountain Home pulled further away from Alma in the final period as they went on to win by 21.
Mitchell led the Lady Bombers with 16 points, Laykin Moore scored 13, and Anna McCarn and Livi Fosness added 10 each. Jordan Gramlich had 24 points for the Lady Airedales, and Olivia Hughes provided 11.
Mountain Home improves to 24-4 on the season and 10-2 in the 5A-West. Alma falls to 13-14 and 1-11.
The Bombers had a different result in the boys’ game as they lost to the Airedales 68-39. Like the girls’ game, the boys went back-and-forth early on with six lead changes and four ties. Alma started to pull away in the second quarter as they took a 10-point lead into the break. Mountain Home made a comeback and cut the margin to five in the third period, but the Airedales took over from there. Alma ended up with 10 players in the scoring column and eventually invoked the mercy rule in the final quarter.
The Bombers were led by Blaine Tate with 19 points. Camden Curd had recorded 12 points for the Airedales, and Miles Kendrick chipped in 11.
Mountain Home drops to 13-15 overall and 3-9 in the league. Alma is now 15-9 and 7-5.
Both Bomber teams will spend the remainder of the season on the road, starting Tuesday with a trip to Farmington.
