The Mountain Home High School basketball teams wrapped up the regular season Friday with a rough trip to Greenwood.
The Lady Bombers ended up finishing in third place in the 5A-West after losing to the Lady Bulldogs 85-60. Mountain Home came out hot as they scored the first 16 points of the game, but Greenwood started making a comeback. The Lady Bulldogs’ defense picked up, and it allowed their offense to get more into rhythm. The Lady Bombers were up by a point at halftime, but it was all Greenwood from there. Mountain Home ended up getting outscored by the Lady Bulldogs 47-21 in the second half.
Brooklynn Mitchell and Livi Fosness led the Lady Bombers with 14 points each, and Whitten Coleman added 13. Kylah Pearcy scored 43 points for Greenwood, and Izzy Smith had 34.
The Lady Bulldogs are the conference runners-up at 17-11 on the season and 11-3 in the 5A-West. Mountain Home falls to 24-6 and 10-4, and they’ll meet Little Rock Christian Wednesday evening at 7 in the opening round of the Class 5A State Tournament at Greene County Tech High School in Paragould.
Ryder McClain reached a milestone in the boys’ game as he ended up with exactly 1,000 career points, but his 21 in the game were not enough as the Bombers fell to Greenwood 73-68. The Bulldogs came out with 21 first quarter points, and they pulled a little further away in the second period as their halftime lead was nine. Greenwood had a double digit advantage a few times in the third quarter, but Rhett Gilbert led a comeback as he ended the period with six three-pointers. Mountain Home took the lead in the final quarter, but it wouldn’t last as the Bulldogs went back on top and eventually posted the five-point win.
The Bombers were led by Gilbert’s 29 points. Jayden Garnes provided 30 points for Greenwood, Grant Karnes recorded 26, and Jack Scott chipped in 12.
Mountain Home concludes the year at 13-17 overall and 3-11 in the league. The Bulldogs end the season at 15-14 and 5-9.
