Salem man severely injured in Baxter County accident

A Salem man was severely injured in a one-vehicle accident Thursday morning in Baxter County. Forty-seven-year-old Benny Monk was transported by air ambulance to CoxHealth Medical Center South in Springfield.

According to a crash report from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, Monk was traveling on Hand Cove Road. His vehicle reportedly traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a sign and a tree on the front driver’s side. There were no signs of braking or actions to avoid the impact.

According to the responding deputy, it is unclear when the crash occurred. An unknown subject told authorities his daughter drove by at approximately 7 Thursday morning spotted the vehicle. Monk was not able to give any type of account.

Damage to Monk’s vehicle was estimated at $10,000.
