The filing period for school board candidates in the May 2025 election closed at noon Monday, with two contested races in Mountain Home and Norfork.
In the Mountain Home Public School District, Brad Butler will face Robert “Tony” Chamberlain for Position 3, currently held by Dan Smackal. Smackal did not file for reelection.
Marsha Partney filed for Position 1, currently held by board president Lisa House, and Tommy Knight filed for Position 2, currently held by Neal Pendergrass. Pendergrass was appointed to the seat after it was vacated by Bob Chester.
In Norfork, a race for Position 1 has developed, with Josh Davis facing Matt Wilbur for the seat currently held by Shannon Moody.
No candidates filed for Cotter Public Schools Board of Education, Position 3, which is currently held by Luke Walker.
Election Day is May 13. Early voting begins May 6, and the deadline to register to vote is April 14.
