MH girls among area basketball teams to play state tournament openers Wednesday

Wednesday’s high school basketball schedule includes Mountain Home’s girls going to Paragould for the start of their postseason. The Lady Bombers will meet Little Rock Christian in the opening round of the Class 5A State Tournament at Greene County Tech High School.
Mountain Home enters the tournament after finishing in third place in the 5A-West with a record of 24-6. Lady Bombers’ head coach Dell Leonard says the team is glad to be back in the postseason, but they have loftier goals they want to achieve.

Christian is currently 24-4 on the year, and they finished the regular season as the runners-up of the 5A-Central. Leonard says Mountain Home will face a challenge from the Lady Warriors, led by one of the state’s best players.

Tip-off at Eagle Arena is scheduled for 7. Wednesday’s game will be broadcast on Classic Hits 101.7 and streaming live at ktlo.com and the Bomber Sports Network.

The Harrison boys will also be at Greene County Tech for their opener in the Class 5A State Tournament. The Goblins face Little Rock Catholic at 2:30.

Izard County’s boys will go to Cedar Ridge High School in Newark for their first game in the Class 2A State Tournament. The Cougars will take on Hector at 5:30.

Two area boys’ teams will take part in the opening round of the Class 1A State Tournament at Trumann. Lead Hill plays Lafayette County at 2:30, and Jasper will be paired with Blevins at 5:30.

District play continues for Missouri’s larger high schools on Wednesday.

The West Plains boys will go to Webb City for their opener in the Class 5, District 6 Tournament. The Zizzers face Springfield Parkview at 4.

Two area boys’ teams will take part in the semifinals of the Class 4, District 11 Tournament at Logan-Rogersville High School. Ava takes on the host Wildcats at 6, and Forsyth plays Mountain Grove at 7:30.

Branson’s boys will be in Nixa for the first round of the Class 6, District 5 Tournament. The Pirates will be matched up with Springfield Glendale at 5:30.
