
A Missouri woman is facing felony charges after the death of her 1-year-old child.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), an investigation was conducted by the Troop E Criminal Investigations Unit of MSHP’s Division of Drug and Crime Control after the Cape Girardeau Police Department requested that MSHP look into the child’s “suspicious death” earlier this week.
21-year-old Alyssa Wehmeyer is being accused of not feeding her 1-year-old child for more than 36 hours. Court documents also allege that the child was left unattended in their crib for nearly 19 hours.
Wehmeyer is facing one count of abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death. She is is currently being held in the Scott County Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond and will be making her first court appearance on Thursday.
