
The Izard County High School girls’ basketball team was able to advance to the semifinals of the Class 2A State Tournament following their 55-41 victory over Poyen Friday at Cedar Ridge High School in Newark. The Lady Cougars were led by Olivia Spray 16 points, and Makensie Yancey and Kallie Skidmore each chipped in 14. Izard County is now 30-4 on the year.

Three area teams played their quarterfinal games in the Class 3A State Tournament on the south campus of North Arkansas College in Harrison.
Melbourne’s boys were able to invoke the mercy rule as they routed Prescott 75-40. The Bearkatz now have a record of 28-7.
Melbourne did not fare as well on the girls’ side as they fell to Dover 68-56. The Lady Bearkatz wrap up their season at 24-10.
Mountain View will be the Lady Pirates’ next opponent after they topped Dumas 46-35. The Lady Yellowjackets improve to 28-8 on the season.

The Jasper girls returned to Trumann for the quarterfinals of the Class 1A State Tournament and picked up the 46-36 win over Marked Tree. The Lady Pirates’ mark now stands at 28-9.

In Missouri, Forsyth’s boys fell one win short of a state tournament bid as they fell to Logan-Rogersville 71-34 in the title game of the Class 4, District 11 Tournament. The Panthers’ season concludes at 20-8.
