The Mountain Home High School girls’ basketball team’s quest to make its first state championship game appearance in 30 years fell one win short on Saturday. The Lady Bombers returned to Greene County Tech High School in Paragould on Saturday and fell to the host Lady Eagles 50-35 in the semifinals of the Class 5A State Tournament.
For Mountain Home, the game started similar to the quarterfinal win over Nettleton in which they struggled to shoot from the floor. Brooklyn Mitchell had all six of the Lady Bombers’ first quarter points as she hit one field goal and went 4-of-5 from the line. The offense picked up for Mountain Home as they were able to take the lead from Tech for a short time. The Lady Eagles were up one at the break, but little-by-little, they started pulling away as the Lady Bombers struggled to get a consistent flow on the offensive end. Tech outscored Mountain Home 21-12 in the final period for the 15-point win.
Mitchell led the Lady Bombers with 12 points, and Anna McCarn added 11. Jacey Edrington scored 13 points for the Lady Eagles, and Sophia Gonzalez had 10.
Tech improves to 31-2 on the season, and they’ll meet Farmington in the state title game Friday evening at Bank OZK Arena in downtown Hot Springs. Mountain Home concludes its season with a record of 26-7.
