Johnson recaps Izard County’s state championship season, being named finals MVP

On March 13, the Izard County High School girls’ basketball team made history when it captured the program’s first ever state championship. Senior Quinn Johnson was named MVP in the Lady Cougars’ 72-66 victory over Barton.

Johnson says it was amazing to see all of her and her teammates’ hard work finally pay off.

Johnson adds that the team had some struggles early on in the year, but something finally clicked, and they began to play better as the season went on.

Johnson says she plans on attending Arkansas State University in Jonesboro after she graduates from high school, and she hopes to eventually get in to pharmacy school.

The Lady Cougars finished their outstanding season with a record of 32-4.
