A second drowning victim has been reported from the flooding in West Plains. The body of the unidentified 45-year-old West Plains man was recovered Sunday, two days after the incident occurred.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the victim was attempting to cross a low-water slab at 6:16 Friday evening when his vehicle was swept away into Mustion Creek. The male reportedly exited his vehicle and drowned. His body was recovered at the scene Sunday afternoon, and he was pronounced dead just before 2:15 by the Howell County coroner.
The incident occurred nearly 20 minutes after another Missouri man drowned in another part of West Plains. The 57-year-old O’Fallon male exited his vehicle after it was swept away, and he succumbed to the water.
The deaths are the first two drowning incidents reported by Troop G this year. The troop had reported zero at the same time in 2024.
